Changing Perspectives –The Digital World And You

You might be wondering, what is digital transformation? What has it got to do with higher education? How can these two be amalgamated? What is the need of digital transformation?
Digital transformation is the change that takes place when digital technology is applied in all aspects of human society. In other words, it is the influence of the internet, social media, laptops, computers, tablets and other such gadgets in the lives of students that we need to be focussing upon. Student retention, Student recruitment, Fundraising, reduced costs and higher operational efficiency and greater classroom innovation are the areas of interest
In the economic sector it has lowered costs, increased access and has facilitated greater interaction with customers. Let us focus primarily on the field of education.
How is technology being used in classrooms?
By using Goodle Docs or Dropbox

Social networking facilities like Google Docs, Dropbox and other such media are helping parents understand and relate to the progress of the student. Teachers are benefitting from it since they have complete access to the work that is being submitted by students. They are being graded accordingly. If anyone is late in submitting work, that is also recorded.
By sharing information online

Students are able to finish their projects by connecting their individual tablets, laptops or mobiles to a single device. They are able to share their documents with each other. They can work in groups and teams very efficiently. It is cost-reductive since they can pool their information in a classroom and just complete their work.
Use Video Chats Extensively

The students can interact with fellow students, teachers or anyone on Skype to gather information, for the purpose of networking and to clarify doubts before going to class. It is a very good way for introverts to interact with others by leaving their response or queries for others to answer. Learning becomes effective.
Using Class Blogs

The students can also write blogs that are shared by fellow students in the classroom. They can have discussions on relevant topics on current events. They can post creative articles to nurture their creativity and to share their thoughts with their fellow students. Parents can also remain connected to the students when they use the blog sites.
Using a Podcast

A podcast can be useful when someone is reading a book aloud or recording a discussion in the classroom. The very recent lessons can be recorded and kept handy for future reference. They will feel rejuvenated once they receive reviews based on their work. These discussions will be visible and accessible to all.
Interactive Maps for Geography
Students can access interactive maps for a clear view about any place that they are looking up on the internet.
Excel in Finance

The students can use the excel spreadsheets to understand simple and complex calculations, finances, how to create a budget and many other functions that will help them in real life.
These are the ways in which digital transformation is influencing higher education. They are getting information from the internet and from the learning modules together with the supportive guidance of the intuitive teachers. They are getting their assignments done within the stipulated time and are being assessed efficiently as well. What more could a student ask for?
